Rombaut first got his start in design about 12 years ago, working at Lanvin in product development on the First thing I see every morning is corgi who loves me shirt also I will do this mens accessories team. Later he went to the now defunct label Damir Doma, again continuing on the path of product development and often had to travel to Italy to visit factories. It was on one such trip that the idea came to start his own sustainable label. While he enjoyed his time working at larger brands, Rombaut did notice how much waste was being produced. I saw that there were things going to waste and I could do things differently, he says. I was watching things about climate change and animal culture and the impact it has on the environment so that was the motivation behind doing something better.
First thing I see every morning is corgi who loves me shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt
While his namesake label has a more futuristic feel, Virn tends towards a more organic design. (The word itself is plucked from the First thing I see every morning is corgi who loves me shirt also I will do this French and English word environment.) There are simple low-tops that still come in an array of earthy green, cream, and black. (Visible throughout the collection is a chunky outsole, a discernible feature that has become a signature in both of Rombauts labels.) Much of Rombauts techno past came into play. I loved to party, he says. This was another way to channel this energy of the techno scene into this project. It kind of keeps me sane this way. His high-top sneakers patched with poster-like prints are based on fliers for techno parties.
